Befriending
Many older people often spend their days alone, having little or no contact with others and rarely having the opportunity to get out.
They may feel lonely or isolated, experience despair, hopelessness or sometimes even depression.
Some older people may have mobility difficulties or lack transport which can make it difficult to go shopping or to see friends.
Our volunteers can help by visiting someone in their own home to offer companionship and provide a listening ear over a cup of tea. They might give support by taking people out within the local area and helping people maintain their links with the outside world.
Volunteers can often provide useful information about local activities & events and a visit from a volunteer may give someone caring for an older person an opportunity for a break.
