Volunteers

The role of a Befriending Volunteer

As a Befriending volunteer you may be asked to:
  • Visit someone in their own home to provide companionship and conversation.
  • Take someone out shopping, to an appointment or to visit places of interest such as a garden centre or local park.
  • Provide information about what is happening in someone’s community.

The role of an Activity Friend Volunteer

As an Activity Friend volunteer you may be asked to:
  • Accompany someone on a walk & plan suitable walking programmes.
  • Take someone swimming and help them gain confidence in the water.
  • Find out about local opportunities for exercise and activities for those you support.

Our volunteers are good at listening to people as well as making conversation. They often see the funny side of life and encourage others to do the same.

Typically our volunteers offer 1 to 2 hours a week of their time. In return they receive training & support, out of pocket expenses, opportunities to get together with other volunteers and the chance to make a difference to the lives of older people.

How do I become a volunteer?

Fill in a Volunteer Application Form or contact us by phone, email or letter. Staff will then meet with you to talk through your application form (giving two referees) and complete a CRB form.
